PHILADELPHIA (February 21, 2021) – PABJ is saddened by the news of the passing of local broadcast pioneer Cody Anderson on Saturday evening.
Anderson was a long-time general manager of WDAS 105.3 and a radio pioneer in Philadelphia. He co-hosted “The Electric Magazine” with Vikki Leach on Saturday mornings on WURD 96.1FM/900 AM and was the former owner of WHAT 1340 AM. He made history again as the first general manager of WURD, one of the few Black-owned and operated talk radio stations in America. He gave many in the broadcast industry their first start, including media maven Iyanla Vanzant. “Anderson was a godfather to Black journalists across the region,” said Ernest Owens, PABJ President. “I was grateful to be in his presence and receive wisdom from him every time I made a guest appearance on WURD’s Laborers Live. He was an embodiment of what it meant to be a media humanitarian to the community.” Anderson leaves behind his wife and children, Bill, Kyle, and Theresa Anderson. We have his family in our thoughts and prayers during this time. PABJ will keep the membership updated on ways we plan to honor Anderson’s legacy this year. Until then, let’s remember the incredible impact Anderson has left behind and stay lifted.
